Wales Christmas Custom Glass Ornament
Description
This 3" tall two-tone satin ornament tells the story of the Christmas customs of Wales. Crafted of glass exclusively for Bronner's from Hungary, our Welsh Christmas custom ornament is sure to be a fun and enlightening conversation piece for years to come!
Custom on the back of the ornament reads:
In the pre-dawn hours of Christmas Day, people gathered in rural churches for Plygain, a service where old Welsh carols were sung, traditionally by men, in polyphonic harmony without accompaniment. The brilliant illumination from multi-colored candles brought by the attendees in a processional was an important feature of this service. Another custom unique to Wales is the Calennig, an apple studded with cloves, sprouting a sprig of evergreen on the top and supported on a tripod. It is carried house-to-house by children singing carols, hoping for a small gift in return for this symbol of good luck, peace and prosperity in the coming new year.
