CHRISTMAS LIGHTS TIPS AND TRICKS
DIFFERENCES IN LIGHT BULB SIZES
Mini Lights| Mini lights are the most common incandescent and LED size used in Christmas decorating. They tend to run between .5 and 2 watts in brightness and have a base that snaps into sockets instead of screwing in.
C9| C9 bulbs are mostly used in outdoor decorations due to their size, brightness and heat they give off. They run about 7 watts in brightness and have a screw in base. They are usually available in both incandescent and LED.
C7| C7 bulbs are the most common C style and are often referred to as looking Retro. The have an average brightness of about 5 watts and have a screw in base. Bubble lights are often this size. They are usually available in both incandescent and LED.
C6| C6 bulbs were once the original C style bulb used for Christmas decorating, but are now uncommon and are most likely only available in LED.
G20 and G12| G style lights are similar to mini lights for their style and useage. They often come in a faceted crystal appearance and are most likely only available in LED.
M5| M5 mini bulbs are very similar to regular mini bulbs. They are the same size and shape, but the surface is heavily faceted. LED lights project straight out unless otherwise reflected, so the facets help diffuse the bright light.
Rectified Conical| Rectified conical, also known as wide angle bulbs, are the same width of mini lights, but instead of a long cylindrical tube, the light is a short, convex cylinder. Because LED lights project straight out unless otherwise reflected, these lights shine rather intensly.
Bubble Lights| Bubble lights often have the same base as a C7 bulb and are able to screw into a C7 socket. Most bubble lights are incandescent because heat is needed to boil the liquid in order to make the bubbling effect. Bubble lights are safe to use on your tree or garland, indoors or outdoors.
HOW TO WRAP LIGHTS ON A TREE
STEP 1| Secure an extension cord (with pipe cleaner) to tree pole to plug in lights (leaving top outlet clear for tree topper).
STEP 2| Work from the bottom of the tree to the top. Start at the back of the tree branch (nearest pole).
STEP 3| Plugging your light string into extension cord, begin snuggly wrapping lights around branch "base" coming towards the front, circling back in a crisscross on the front branch tip. (see red in diagram.)
STEP 4| From front branch tip, selectively work your way back and onto other branch tips following the same twist and crisscrossing back pattern (see black in diagram) until you reach the back base of the branch where you started.
STEP 5| From there, bring your cord over to the back of the next branch "base" and repeat, working your way up the tree.

Trees 7 feet and under:height multiplied by diameter, then divide by two.
Trees over 7 feet:height multiplied by diameter, then divide by three.
Example:a 6 foot tree with a diameter of 45 inches would be as follows
6 x 45 = 270 / 2 = 135 lights
*check packaging for approved use on trees
