According to legend, St. Christopher asked a hermit how he could serve Christ. The hermit suggested that St. Christopher use his tremendous size and strength to assist people across a dangerous river. One day a small child asked to be carried across the rushing water. St. Christopher had never felt anything so heavy. The child pronounced, "You had on your shoulders not only the whole world, but also He who made it. I am Christ you King." To this day, St. Christopher is lovingly known as the patron saint of travelers for his assistance with safe passage.
