The story reads: Bronner's replica of the original Silent Night Memorial Chapel in Oberndorf, Austria, was erected in Frankenmuth, Michigan, with permission from the City of Oberndorf (near Salzburg). The memorial chapel was dedicated on November 20, 1992, as a tribute to the Christmas hymn, “ Stille Nacht" (Silent Night), and in thankfulness to God from Wally and Irene Bronner and family. Pastor Joseph Mohr wrote the words and church organist Franz Gruber composed the melody. Known as Austria's Christmas gift to the world, it was first sung on Christmas Eve 1818 in Oberndorf's original St. Nicholas Church, formerly located where the memorial chapel was dedicated in 1937.
