This 3" tall two-tone satin ornament tells the story of the Christmas customs of Russia. Crafted of glass exclusively for Bronner's from Hungary, our Russian Christmas custom ornament is sure to be a fun and enlightening conversation piece for years to come! Custom on the back of the ornament reads:
Russia's Christmas season, known as Sviatki, lasts from January 7 to 19. The true Russian Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ and is observed on January 7. Carolers go from house to house, led by the bearer of "The Star of Bethlehem." As the first star appears in the sky the family joins together to honor the Christ Child, who is symbolized by a tall white candle in the center of the traditional supper table. The head of the family speaks the traditional Christmas greeting "Christ is born!" and everyone responds, "Glorify Him!" The decorating of Christmas trees has enjoyed a renewed enthusiasm since the fall of Communism. Gifts are traditionally exchanged on New Year's Eve.
