This 3" tall two-tone satin ornament tells the story of the Christmas customs of Norway. Crafted of glass exclusively for Bronner's from Hungary, our Norwegian Christmas custom ornament is sure to be a fun and enlightening conversation piece for years to come! Custom on the back of the ornament reads:
Evergreen trees are widely used as decorations and are a focus for hymn and carol sings. Norwegian ships even display a Christmas tree on their mast. On the afternoon of Christmas Eve, sheaves of grain are hung outside for birds, and cattle are given extra fodder in remembrance of their presence at Christ's birth. A bowl of rice pudding may also be set out for nissen (barn elf). An ancient Norse figure called Julesvenn brings gifts to children on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day is spent attending church and visiting relatives. After Christmas, costumed children go from door to door seeking treats, indulging in a custom called Julebukk.
