Description

This 3" tall two-tone satin ornament tells the story of the Christmas customs of Greece. Crafted of glass exclusively for Bronner's from Hungary, our Greek Christmas custom ornament is sure to be a fun and enlightening conversation piece for years to come!
Custom on the back of the ornament reads:
December is a time of storms in the seas around Greece. December 6 is the feast day of St. Nicholas, the patron of sailors, who stilled the waters. On Christmas morning children go to homes singing carols called kalanda. Dinner includes christopsomo (Christ-bread). St. Basil, Hagios Vasilios, is the bearer of Greek children's gifts which are exchanged on St. Basil's Day, January 1. On Epiphany people gather at a nearby river for the ceremonial Blessing of the Waters. As a symbol of the Holy Spirit, a white dove is released. A priest throws a cross into the water and young men compete to recover it. A special blessing is given to the one who retrieves the cross.
