 | The person who was to become St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was not born in Ireland, but in Wales about 385 AD. Considering himself a pagan, he was sold into slavery at the age of sixteen by a group of Irish brigands that raided his village. During his captivity, he became closer to God. Escaping from slavery after six years, Patrick then went to study Christianity for twelve years. His mission was to return to Ireland to convert the pagans. Setting up Christian schools and churches, among other achievements, Patrick was very successful at winning converts. His mission in Ireland lasted for thirty years. He died March 17, 461 AD. Commemorated as St. Patrick's Day, March 17 was originally a Catholic holy day, celebrating the universal baptism of Ireland. Since then, St. Patrick's Day has evolved into a day of Irish pride. Bronner's is pleased to present several items that will bring Irish charm and pride to any St. Patrick's day celebration.
