Courtesy of Fontanini: Fontanini's products are mainly manufactured in PVC and resin. This polymer, created especially for the company, is truly unique. Its plasticity allows all the details of the original nativity figure to be captured when placed in the mould. At the same time it is extremely resistant to scratches or breakages when dropped accidentally. After having been melted, it is injected into the mould at a very high pressure and temperature. After a brief cooling period, the piece that has been extracted, checked and left to cool completely in tanks of running water. The following step is a careful and detailed inspection. After this the pieces, still in a rough state, are distributed to craftsmen to be decorated. This is still done completely by hand today and is perhaps the most fascinating part of the production process. A fervent tradition associated with the painting of figurines is still alive today in the small villages of Mediavalle, Italy. Many families are involved in this activity, keeping the enthusiasm for this art alive that is passed down from generation to generation. The Fontanini company has always chosen its collaborators carefully and continues to do so: from the supply of materials to sculptors and decorations. "It is fundamentally important to fully know those who will be helpful in the creation of an artistic product and tradition such as that of Fontanini. The sculptors have always been in the spotlight. Some of the most representative master sculptors of our times are a fundamental support in reaching our goal."
